Greta Hansen
33 Beaumont Way, Stowmarket IP14 1SA
Greta Hansen trained at Ipswich Art School, Central Saint Martins, and London University. While teaching art and pottery in London, she frequently returned to her native Suffolk to paint the landscape and coastline—imagery that remains central to her practice.
After relocating permanently, Greta became the art coordinator at Bacton Middle School, a role she held until her retirement. Over 20 years ago, she joined the Print Workshop at Gainsborough’s House, where she began developing her skills in etching.
In more recent years, Greta has focused on producing collagraphs and working with lino and MDF wood blocks. She often uses the reduction method, typically working from dark to light, and relishes the rich and sometimes unexpected colour effects it produces.
Her work is deeply rooted in the Suffolk landscape, with each image developed from observational sketches and paintings created during regular sketching trips in the countryside.
