Paul Garcia

Paul likes to make traditionally bound books, from sections sewn by hand with linen thread. He likes to experiment with edge decoration using acrylic, graphite and gold leaf, and always incorporates handsewn silk endbands into the design.
The books are usually covered in leather, although occasionally he uses more exotic materials such as python, and sometimes metal, cloth and paper.
The covers may be decorated with tooling in gold or blind, with intaglio or relief designs, or by dyeing. Designs are often inspired by the endpapers (which are sewn in with hidden cloth joints for strength), and may evolve as the book is constructed, although the aphorism 'less is more' is a guiding principle for Paul.
Paul also tries out alternative methods of book construction and occasionally rebinds old books to save them from oblivion.
