New member Yvonne comes from an Art based background having a degree in the History of Art and Architecture and a PGCE in Art. She taught Art in schools and Creative Textiles through Adult Education and on a free-lance basis. Her teaching and speaking commitments have taken her around the UK and further afield to Australia and New Zealand. She now works from her studio in Norfolk producing textile art for exhibitions and commissions.
She has a passion for fabric, threads, texture and colour and constantly seeks to explore ways in which she can use textiles as and artistic medium to produce images with a tactile surface that has a richness and depth not often possible by more conventional means. She finds her inspiration in the natural world and from art historical sources, particularly the medieval period. She dyes or paints most of the fabrics she uses and applies images to the textile surface with various printing techniques. She stitches by machine using a free machine technique to draw with the needle and thread and further embellishes the work with hand embroidery.
