Helen makes linocuts inspired by the Suffolk countryside and coastline. Her designs evolve from observational drawings and paintings and from her own photography. After making an observational sketch she makes a design, planning the size and shape, and deciding on colours and the order of the passes. She enjoys exploiting a wide range of cutting patterns and creatively exaggerating the shapes of the elements of the landscape.
Helen is interested in exploring mark-making, experimental techniques and how multiple layers interact. Her aim through her linocuts is to depict the spirit of the landscape whilst celebrating and exploring the natural qualities of linocut.
Helen teaches lino print workshops at Stokebridge workshops in Ipswich and also privately in her own studio in Willisham.
