Juliet Lockhart

Welcoming new member, Juliet Lockhart.

Juliet is a maker at heart. The majority of her textile practice is around silent histories. Work that brings attention to the lives of ordinary people, some who did extraordinary things, others that quietly played their part living with the same needs, hopes and constraints that humans have had throughout history. Inspired by museum collections, stories from archives, folk tales, local history and working with a variety of materials and processes her practice is constantly evolving.

Over the course of the past ten years, she has been concentrating on developing the use of seed stitch with a minimalist approach to texture and colour to create stitched portraits. She often works with found objects and vintage linens responding to their resonance and re-purposing them as potential settings for her work.

She studied Textile Design at West Surrey College of Art, Fine Art at University College Suffolk and has a MA in Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Essex. She is currently a practice-led PhD student at the University of Suffolk researching the seventeenth century Suffolk born artist Mary Beale.
