The society welcomes new member Sarah Cannell.

Sarah Cannell's creative process begins with drawing, colour, and experimentation, using these elements to develop both paintings and ceramics. Her passion for landscape drawing and painting has recently extended onto her thrown earthenware and porcelain ceramic forms. This body of work is being further developed with the support of a ‘Developing Your Creative Practice’ grant from the Arts Council for 2023/24.

Sarah believes that the foundation of any successful artwork lies in a strong composition. For many years, she has explored the marshes, footpaths, and lanes around the Waveney Valley, seeking compositions that reflect the subtle and significant traces of both human and natural activity. Her work captures the past through echoes of old paths and hedgerows, as well as the vibrant colours found in nature, from the orange Spindleberry to the purple of ripe Sloes.

Sarah has exhibited across the UK, with work in both private and public collections. She studied at Falmouth Art College (1994-97), the Curwen Study Print Centre, Essex University, and Central St Martins. Always seeking to evolve, she continues to learn from fellow artists to expand her practice.
