The society welcomes new member Claire Pirie.

Claire is a Suffolk potter with a Scottish accent as she was born in Ayrshire and moved to Suffolk over 40 years ago. It was on her Art Foundation Course that she found her love for clay and went on to study BA (Hons) 3D Design – Ceramics at Bath in the early 90s. The degree introduced her to many techniques and by her final year she knew thrown functional ware was her thing.

The focus of Claire’s work is form, function and enjoying the tactile quality of polished clay. The calm pieces are designed to enhance the flowers they hold, the food they serve, the candlelight they project.

Claire throws with porcelain as she loves the purity of the clay. Once partially dried the pieces are trimmed to refine the forms. Glazes are limited to clear or white (glossy or satin matt) and exteriors are often left unglazed, so the colour and tactile quality of the clay can be enjoyed.

Claire hopes her pieces will quietly enhance your everyday.
