Get Involved with Suffolk Craft Society

Suffolk Craft Society is run by its members, for its members. While a few roles receive a modest stipend, the majority are volunteer-based—each one playing a vital role in the success and vibrancy of the Society.

If you’re interested in contributing your time and skills, please explore the current vacancies listed below or join us at the next AGM to learn more about available opportunities.

Your involvement helps shape the future of the Society:

Newsletter Editor
M.A.K.E.R, a magazine sent out through a basic Mailchimp package, is part of Suffolk Craft Society’s communications. It sits alongside more direct messaging, social media and our online presence. It is sent to all members every two months, with a modified version being sent to Friends and third one to all those wanting to be kept up to date with news about the society. In all a total of well over 500 people.

More reflective than other forms of communication and reaching those less familiar with facebook and Instagram, the newsletter celebrates the achievements of our makers and allows readers to learn more about individual craftsmen. It offers news of society shows and developments and lists shows in which our makers are appearing.

Claire Pirie has recently improved the formatting to make the presentation more attractive and readable. We are now looking for a new editor.
Working with the Chair and the secretary the editor’s job is to gather information, seek contributions from fellow makers such as answers to questions about their working practice, short reports on shows, reports of special achievements and recognitions and to bring these items together.

The role needs someone who enjoys working with their fellow makers and learning more about their skills. Skills in writing are valuable but having a primarily visual approach to the magazine is at least as important as the written word.

M.A.K.E.R is a mouthpiece of the Society and it belongs to all makers. There is potential to change and develop the magazine in wholly new directions. Please contact me if you would like more information about this role - Ruth.Holt@network.rca.ac.uk
