The quieter, winter months offer a valuable opportunity for many of our makers to retreat to their studios and workshops. Across Suffolk, members of the Society are busy restocking and handcrafting new work in preparation for the exhibitions and fairs taking place later in the year. These behind-the-scenes months are an essential part of the creative cycle, allowing time for experimentation, refinement and the thoughtful making that underpins high quality craft.

New member Marie Coomber recently spent a mammoth day glazing her wheel-thrown stoneware, fresh from the bisque firing (see images below). Glazes were deliberately chosen, with layers built up over time and each piece adjusted until it felt just right. Some works are now sealed inside the kiln, awaiting their glaze firing, while others will rest until the next kiln load. We look forward to displaying Marie's latest work in the coming months.

Our hardworking committee has been equally busy. Plans are well underway for the Suffolk Craft Society’s 2026 calendar of events, shaping a varied and inspiring programme of exhibitions and opportunities for our members. We are excited about what lies ahead and look forward to sharing more details with you very soon.
