As our exhibition at Snape Maltings draws to a close, the Society looks ahead with excitement to its second appearance at London Craft Week. Once again hosted by our Patron Trevor Pickett, the exhibition will present a carefully selected group of makers, bringing some of the finest craftsmanship from Suffolk to a London audience. This year’s presentation includes jewellers and a glass artist whose work reflects both tradition and innovation:

Susi Hines creates contemporary jewellery through intricate, hand-built constructions, often developing her own gold alloys to achieve subtle tonal variations. Combining etched and patinated surfaces with different golds, silver and carefully chosen gemstones, her work reflects an interest in transformation and movement. By “painting” with metal, she produces articulated forms with rhythm and repetition, often incorporating elements of surprise such as movement or rotation.

Diane Levitt draws inspiration from the natural landscape of Constable Country, where organic shapes and lines inform her jewellery designs. Committed to sustainability, she works with recycled and ethically sourced materials, incorporating colour through enamels, stones and glass. Found objects, often collected from the shoreline, bring a sense of narrative to her work. Each piece is individually handmade, with a particular focus on bespoke commissions that carry personal meaning.

Hassina Khan works in kiln-formed glass, using fusing, slumping and traditional painting techniques to create pieces for interior spaces. Her practice is shaped by her English and Pakistani heritage, exploring themes of identity and cultural intersection. Text plays a central role: fragments she writes are translated into a visual language combining English words with Urdu script, then abstracted through scale and composition. The resulting works invite interpretation, communicating through form and concept rather than literal meaning.

The exhibition brings together a diverse selection of Suffolk Craft Society members, chosen to reflect the high standards of craftsmanship and creative excellence for which the Society is known. Spanning a range of disciplines, it offers a compelling opportunity to experience work that bridges heritage and contemporary practice.
