New Member Nicholas Rowe

The Suffolk Craft Society is delighted to welcome new member Nicholas Rowe, a woodturner whose work is deeply inspired by the natural beauty of bark, grain, and the unique imperfections found in the green, seasoned, and reclaimed wood he carefully sources from the local landscape. 

 

Nicholas begins each piece by considering a form that highlights the wood’s inherent visual and tactile qualities. However, the process is often one of discovery, as hidden voids and natural cracks guide him to adapt and refine his design in response to the material’s story. Each finished piece is marked with the wood’s name and its place of origin, adding an extra layer of meaning to the work. 

 

Welcoming commissions, Nicholas takes particular care when working with wood that holds sentimental value for his clients, recognizing the added responsibility of creating pieces that carry personal significance and resonance.
