As Suffolk Craft Society returns to the magnificent Ickworth Estate later this summer we turn our attention to the exceptional furniture makers and woodworkers who will be joining us there.

David Bartram Furniture brings over a century of collective experience in fine furniture making, restoration, and interior joinery. Renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship and longstanding partnerships with the National Trust and heritage bodies, the team combines traditional and contemporary techniques to create beautifully constructed pieces. Their work includes everything from bespoke furniture to the conservation of architectural woodwork in historic settings.

Mark Dyvig, a blacksmith and art metalworker, creates functional furniture that explores texture and process. His pieces often incorporate metal, stone, and glass, brought together through techniques such as forging, machining, patination, and even custom-built tools—reflecting his fascination with material and method.

Tim Germain produces clean, strong one-off commissions that celebrate the natural beauty of English hardwoods. He personally completes every step of the process, from design to finish, creating understated yet original furniture that allows the character of the wood to shine through.

Adrian Parfitt brings decades of experience and a deep appreciation for traditional joinery, using classic techniques such as dovetails and mortise-and-tenon joints. Now working part-time in his garden studio, Adrian also explores wood lamination to sculpt forms that go beyond what solid wood alone can offer. His work reflects both mastery and quiet innovation.

Toby Winteringham is known for his bold, structured designs in solid wood and veneer. With a minimalist aesthetic and focus on hand skills, his work often features trompe l’oeil marquetry that adds a striking visual dimension. In addition to statement pieces, he produces smaller decorative items for galleries and collectors.

Nicholas Rowe, an acclaimed woodturner, brings a sensitive and material-led approach to his work. Drawing inspiration from the natural grain, imperfections, and unique features of locally sourced wood, he allows each piece to evolve during the turning process. Nicholas enhances the value and narrative of his work by inscribing the wood’s name and place of origin, especially when working with timber of personal significance to a client. His refined surface finishes and evolving forms reflect his deep respect for both the material and its story.

This group of makers represents the rich diversity of contemporary woodcraft—from precision joinery and sculptural form to fine turning and metal integration. Their work embodies the Suffolk Craft Society’s mission to celebrate craftsmanship, sustainability, and the creation of future heirlooms.
