Today we're focusing on the sculptors that will be joining our Summer Exhibition at the historic Ickworth Estate. Their work spans mosaic, wire, wood, and metal with each piece exploring texture, narrative, and tradition through a contemporary lens.

Mary Anstee-Parry, a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors, brings a unique blend of influences to her work. Drawing inspiration from both medieval carving and West African tribal art, her sculptures often incorporate text and symbolism. With a background in traditional wood and letter carving, Mary now also works in copper, exploring new material directions while maintaining the formal balance and wit that characterise her pieces.

Working in wire alone, Nicci Dedman creates delicate yet strong sculptures of flora and fauna using repurposed steel. With no soldering or welding, her technique recalls her roots in jewellery design while developing three-dimensional forms of surprising intricacy and life. Recently, her explorations have expanded into wire-upholstered outdoor furniture, pushing the boundaries of this unusual and sustainable medium.

Joy Holden specialises in the reverse mosaic method, crafting works from finely cut glass and ceramic to achieve unusually flat, smooth surfaces. With over 20 years of refinement, Joy’s pieces evoke the natural patterns and colours found in Suffolk’s landscapes. From her studio at designermakers21 in Diss, she captures fleeting outdoor moments in the permanence of glass and stone, creating mosaics that are both vibrant and meditative.

Finally, Anne Schwegmann-Fielding transforms broken ceramics, vintage jewellery, and found objects into richly layered mosaics that honour the British ceramic tradition while telling contemporary stories. Anne’s work draws from decades of public art practice and an intuitive response to material. From Willow Pattern fragments to family heirlooms, her sculptures are both deeply personal and resonant with shared cultural memory.

Coinciding with the start of Heritage Week, the exhibition celebrates both time-honoured techniques and inventive approaches, do join us if you can.
