There’s much to delight sculpture lovers — and those with an eye for exceptional furniture — at this year’s Suffolk Craft Society Winter Exhibition at the Guildhall in Bury St Edmunds.

Sculptor and letter carver Mary Anstee-Parry, a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors, brings together the humour and balance of medieval carving with the symbolic vitality of West African art. Her works explore order, pattern, and rhythm, often enriched by the inclusion of text. Nicci Dedman, working from the Norfolk–Suffolk border, transforms repurposed steel into intricate wire sculptures inspired by local flora and fauna, combining delicacy and strength through techniques that require no soldering or welding.

Joy Holden’s finely crafted mosaics, made using the reverse method, shimmer with glass and ceramic tesserae arranged in luminous, textured designs. Heidi McEvoy-Swift describes her practice as “sewn sculpture,” creating hand-stitched vessels and wall pieces from salvaged theatrical fabrics and natural materials — works that explore impermanence, sustainability, and our connection to the natural world.

Furniture maker Tim Germain presents one-of-a-kind commissioned pieces that celebrate the warmth and beauty of English hardwoods, while Toby Winteringham’s sculptural furniture unites strength and elegance through fine craftsmanship, detailed structure, and distinctive trompe-l’œil marquetry.

Together, these artists and makers bring a dynamic blend of creativity, form, and craftsmanship — a celebration of materials and imagination not to be missed at this year’s Guildhall exhibition. We look forward to welcoming you. More information available here >>
