Suffolk Craft Society in partnership with BrittenPears Arts
30th March - 28th April 2026 in Gallery 21 & the DoveCote Studio, Snape Maltings, Suffolk IP17 1SP
Our exhibition at Snape Maltings is a feast for the eyes, showcasing a wide range of exceptional contemporary crafts. Alongside the displays, visitors will also have the opportunity to see several of our members at work during a series of live demonstrations taking place over the weekend of 11th - 12th April, coinciding with Snape Maltings’ Place Weekend.
These demonstrations offer a fascinating insight into the creative processes behind the work on show and provide a chance to talk directly with the makers about their skills, materials and techniques.
On Saturday morning from 10:30am to 1pm, Anne Schwegmann-Fielding will demonstrate the techniques and tools she uses to cut intricate shapes from vintage plates, transforming them into her distinctive and charming mosaic sculptures. At the same time, Diane Levitt will be demonstrating the wax manipulation techniques she uses to create her sculptural jewellery designs.
The demonstrations continue on Saturday afternoon from 2pm to 4:30pm, when Anne Schwegmann-Fielding will return and be joined by Liz Chester, who will demonstrate some of the skills involved in creating her intricate and detailed tapestry weaving using a small tabletop loom.
On Sunday morning from 10:30am to 1pm, Simon Turner will be demonstrating how he incorporates Victorian coal hole covers into the creation of his distinctive art, while Hassina Khan will show how she paints on glass using traditional and sgraffito techniques.
The weekend concludes on Sunday afternoon from 2pm to 4:30pm, when Simon Turner will return, this time joined by Heidi McEvoy-Swift. Heidi will demonstrate how she cuts patterns around found objects and stitches together fragments of fabric to create her unique sewn sculptures.
Visitors are warmly encouraged to make a note in their diaries and come along to Snape Maltings to enjoy both the exhibition and these informative and engaging demonstrations, offering a rare opportunity to see skilled makers bringing their work to life.
