Alongside the work of our members, this year's Summer Exhibition at Ickworth will feature work from Crossing Crafts, the exciting collaborative project between Suffolk Craft Society and the Society of Designer Craftsmen.
Launched last year, Crossing Crafts pairs makers from the two societies across different disciplines, encouraging them to step outside their usual creative practice and explore each other's materials, techniques and ways of working.
The project is about far more than collaboration. It is an opportunity for makers to share skills, exchange ideas and discover fresh perspectives that challenge and inspire their own practice. By learning from one another, these creative partnerships are sparking new directions, technical innovation and entirely original pieces of work.
Each pairing brings together a unique combination of disciplines, making every collaboration different. The results are imaginative, thought-provoking and often surprising – a celebration of what can happen when creative minds cross traditional boundaries.
The response to Crossing Crafts has been overwhelmingly positive, and the project has gathered real momentum. We are delighted that visitors to Ickworth will have the opportunity to see these collaborations on display and discover the stories behind them.
Suffolk Craft Society members taking part are Mary Anstee Parry, Liz Chester, Marie Coomber, Tim Germain, Cindy Gidney, Raeleen Gladwell, Susi Hines, Ruth Holt, Hassina Khan, Diane Levitt, Heidi McEvoy-Swift, Anne Schwegmann-Fielding, Neville Tatham and Sarah Woodcock.
