The Suffolk Craft Society was delighted to be part of a truly inspiring day of creativity and connection on Saturday 18th April, as the Society of Designer Craftsmen hosted Celebrating Collaboration

The event brought together makers, artists and creative thinkers to explore the rich and meaningful relationships that can develop between craftspeople, communities and commercial partners. It was a thoughtful and engaging programme, highlighting how collaboration can open new directions, challenge ideas and strengthen creative practice.

A series of insightful talks from leading makers offered personal perspectives on collaboration in action. Speakers included Alice Kettle Hon FSDC, renowned textile and fibre artist; Simon Jewell FSDC, celebrated furniture and box maker; Christine Spencer MSDC, textile artist; and ceramicist Emma Lacey. Each shared their experiences of working across disciplines and the ways in which collaboration has shaped and enriched their work.

Alongside the talks, visitors enjoyed a vibrant craft showcase and live demonstrations, offering a chance to see materials and processes up close. The day also provided an exciting first glimpse of the developing collaborative work between members of the Suffolk Craft Society and the Society of Designer Craftsmen, a partnership that promises to produce innovative and inspiring outcomes.

It was a fantastic day, full of energy, ideas and shared enthusiasm. The Suffolk Craft Society extends its sincere thanks to all the speakers, exhibitors and demonstrators, and especially to the Society of Designer Craftsmen for hosting such a memorable and meaningful event.

We look forward to sharing more from this collaboration as the work continues to evolve >>
