Suffolk Craft Society member and talented furniture maker Tim Germain is currently putting the finishing touches to a very special commemorative bench for Snape Maltings.

The bench, which will be installed on the Henry Moore Lawn, marks a significant milestone in the Society’s history — the first Suffolk Craft Society exhibition held at Snape Maltings more than fifty years ago. As we prepare to return to this remarkable venue for our first exhibition of 2026, it feels especially fitting to celebrate our long-standing connection in such a permanent and thoughtful way.

Adding another layer of meaning to the piece, the wording of W. H. Auden’s poem 'On This Island' has now been carefully picked out in ebony, ensuring the text is both striking and easy for visitors to read. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are characteristic of Tim’s work, combining beauty with durability in a piece designed for public enjoyment.

Stay tuned for updates on the installation and the exhibition, we can’t wait to see this wonderful piece in place on the Henry Moore Lawn.
