We are delighted to announce that the Suffolk Craft Society exhibition at CraftCo, Southwold is now open and will continue until 30th June. Held in the Upstairs Gallery of one of Suffolk’s most respected contemporary craft venues, this special exhibition brings together the work of 11 Society makers and celebrates the creativity, skill and diversity of contemporary craft across the region. This exciting exhibition is mentioned by the Crafts Council, making it a must-visit for anyone with an interest in contemporary craft.
Founded more than 38 years ago by a collective of passionate makers, CraftCo was established to provide a dedicated space for showcasing high-quality contemporary craft. Situated on Southwold’s vibrant High Street, it continues to champion excellence in the applied arts. Alongside its renowned ground-floor shop, which features an ever-changing selection of work from Members and Associate Members, the first-floor gallery hosts a varied programme of exhibitions throughout the year, and we are delighted to be part of this year's programme.
The exhibition features work by Susie Bruce, Jean Constantine, Marie Coomber, Alison Dane, Jean Fryer, Greta Hansen, Valerie Jarvis, Sheila Madder, Alex Waylett, Sarah Woodcock and Mary Wyatt. Together they represent a wide range of disciplines, including ceramics, leather, jewellery, printmaking and textiles. Visitors can expect a rich and engaging display of contemporary craftsmanship, originality and artistic excellence.
The exhibition is only part of the Suffolk Craft Society presence at CraftCo this summer. A number of our members regularly supply the main CraftCo shop throughout the year, meaning visitors can discover even more work by Society makers while they are there. Members with work available in the shop include Lin Carter, John Chipperfield, Clare Gaylard, Helen Maxfield, Jenny Nutbeem, Kate Reynolds, Neville Tatham, Pat Todd, Claire Pirie and Sara Barker.
Whether you are looking for beautifully crafted ceramics, textiles, jewellery, printmaking, painting or mixed-media work, CraftCo offers a wonderful opportunity to discover and purchase unique handcrafted pieces created by talented Suffolk makers.
We hope you will take the opportunity to enjoy a visit to the seaside this June and explore both our special exhibition in the Upstairs Gallery and the wider selection of Suffolk Craft Society members' work throughout the shop. The exhibition runs daily until 30th June, making it the perfect excuse for a summer day out in Southwold.
